Ighalo, Moses, Simon set to lead Eagles attack

Nigeria
national football team players pose prior to the 2018 FIFA World Cup
qualifying football match between Nigeria and Cameroon at Godswill
Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo, southern Nigeria, on September 1,
2017.
The trio started Eagles last two matches against Cameroon
last month and acquitted themselves well. Arsenal striker, Alex Iwobi
was not in the squad for the last games because of injury while
Leicester’\s forward, Kelechi Iheanacho, who alongside Iwobi played in
the reverse fixture against Zambia last year, was introduced in the
second half against the Indomitable Lions.
And if what we heard from camp sources is anything to go
by, it appears that the trio of Ighalo, who plays in China, Moses and
Chelsea and Simon of Gent may well retain their starting shorts in
today’s camp.
It was learnt from our usually reliable sources that the
trio of Ighalo, Moses and Simon were made to play in the same group
against the likes of Iwobi and Iheanacho, in the last two training
sessions of the team, which were out of bound to reporters and fans.
Coach Gernot Rohr, who presided over the exercise, was seen
watching with rapt attention as the two teams battled it out, with
constant reproaches from the former Burkina Faso tactician, who pressed
both set of players for the best.
The team, comprising Ighalo, Moses and Simon won the game
3-2 , thanks to a brace from Odion Ighalo with Alex Iwobi who was moved
from Team B to A netting what ended as the winner, while Kelechi
Iheanacho and Anthony Nwakaeme got the goals for the B team. Rohr
intermittently changed tactics and players, in his bid to try out
different options, which he hopes will steer his team to victory over
Zambia today.
One of our sources said that, “it seems that Coach Rohr
will start with Ighalo, Moses and Simon. That much was seen in the last
training session, even though he tried to change some things but that
is just trying out various options depending on how the game with
Zambia will go.
‘’But I think that he wants to stick to the winning team
that ended Cameroon’s World Cup hopes so that they can also end
Zambia’s dream today’’, he said.
