Ambode asks workers to support anti-corruption war
The Lagos State Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi
Ambode, has called on various labour unions in the country to support
the anti-corruption crusade of the President Muhammadu Buhari-led
administration.
Ambode said the support would help the government to redeem the image of the country as well as boost the economy.
The governor spoke at the Lagos House,
Alausa, Ikeja, on Thursday during a rally by members of the Trade Union
Congress, Nigerian Labour Congress, National Youth Council, and the
Committee for the Defence of Human Rights.
Ambode,
who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Mr. Tunji
Bello, said Nigeria was at a defining moment of its democratic history,
which required all hands to be on deck.
He said, “We thank you immensely for the
support that you are giving President Buhari. This is what Nigerians
need. You are the leaders and opinion moulders; without you setting the
agenda, there is no way this country can progress.
“The governor seeks your support for all
the things President Buhari is doing, so whatever input you may wish to
offer, his doors are always open to you.”
The state Chairman of TUC, Akeem Kazeem,
lamented that corruption had plunged the nation into poverty and
infrastructural decay and dented the image of the country.
He said, “Corruption has created a very
bad image for the country and its citizens, as Nigerians are viewed as
corrupt and dubious people outside. It has affected all sectors: health,
education, petroleum, power, agriculture, transport, goods and
services, as well as manufacturing.”
“It has also led to massive brain drain –
a great number of Nigeria best brains have been driven to other parts
of the world where they now spearhead developmental and scientific
exploits.”
