W/Cup Qualifier: Okala urges Rohr to maintain players’ “present good selection’

Enugu – Former Green Eagles Goalkeeper, Emmanuel Okala, has joined other soccer buffs to urge Super Eagles Coach, Gernot Rohr, to maintain his “present good selection’’ of players against the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon on Monday. Okala, who was a former Super Eagles Goalkeeper Trainer, gave the advice while speaking to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Sunday in Enugu. Nigeria’s Mikel John Obi (C) celebrates with teammates William Ekong (L) and Odion Ighalo after scoring a goal during the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifying football match between Nigeria and Cameroon at Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo, southern Nigeria, on September 1, 2017. He spoke against the backdrop of ways to strengthen the Super Eagles team for a resounding victory during their away match in Cameroon. According to him, Nigeria always has the football talents but poor and biased players’ selection robs the nation of its numerous victories. “I believe Rohr is doing a very nice job; having a good reading of matches as well as his players. “The selection of players both the first 11 players and their substitutes were superb in our victory against Cameroon in Uyo. “It has been long we had a near perfect selection of players that had brought the best out of the Super Eagles,’’ he said. Okala, however, said that the victory in Uyo had made all Nigerians happy and had shown the seriousness the players attached to Nigeria’s qualification for Russia 2018 World Cup. “I must confess; I am highly happy and impressed that we are getting it right and moving with the right attitude towards the World Cup qualification as well as its preparation proper. “Our boys and the entire Super Eagles technical crew should keep the flag flying. We are proud of them,’’ he added. NAN reports that the Nigeria’s Super Eagles beat Indomitable Lions of Cameroon 4-0 in the first leg of the 2018 FIFA World Cup Qualifier at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo, last Friday. The goals from Odion Ighalo, Mikel Obi, Victor Moses and Kelechi Iheanacho, rendered the African champions, Indomitable Lions hapless and unable to roar. (NAN)
