Why workers shut down Total Oil nationwide
Threats by the management of a major oil firm in Nigeria, Total Oil, may have made the firm incur the wrath of its workers, leading to a total shut down of all offices and production depots nationwide.
Trouble began, according Tokunbo Korodo, chairman of the National Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas (NUPENG) when the company threatened to sack all workers, who had indicated interest to join the union.
“They (management) want majority of us to remain as casual workers until retirement so that no entitlements would be paid us.”
