Eguma wary of KCCA threat
Rivers United technical manager, Stanley Eguma says the Caf Confederation Cup game between his team and Kampala Capital City Authority is decisive and insists his side must avoid defeat on Saturday if they are to reach the quarterfinals of the competition.
United go into Saturday’s game knowing a draw will see them move one place up in Group A following FUS Rabat’s 2-1 win over Club Africain in the other game in the section on Friday.
The Rivers United manager revealed in an exclusive chat with supersport.com that the encounter will be far from straightforward but stated that his charges are focused on the task at hand.
“If we want to qualify for the knockout rounds of the competition, this is the game that we cannot afford to lose,” Eguma said.
“We know that they are more experienced than us as far as continental football is concerned but as always, we have prepared very well for this important game.
“The players are in high spirits and focussed on doing well because they understand that this is a Nigerian project,” he said.
Eguma is short of options upfront with Ivorian attacker, Guy Keumian ruled out with a foot injury while Emeka Ogbugh faces a late fitness test.
“We already knew that Guy would not play and that was why he did not travel in the first place.
“The case of Ogbugh is more complex as he suffered a case of food poisoning on Friday night.
“He did not train but he has not been ruled out yet.
“He is an extremely important player for us and we have to wait until the last moment to make a decision on him,” he concluded.
Saturday’s game between Rivers United and KCCA at the Phillip Omondi Stadium, Kampala kicks off at 16:00 hrs local time (2pm Nigerian time).
