Mutebi plots Rivers Utd’s fall
Head coach of Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) FC Mike Mutebi is confident that his charges will get a positive result against Nigerian side Rivers United in the Caf Confederation Cup on Saturday.
Mutebi believes United will play defensively in the Group A game which will be decided at the Phillip Omondi Stadium, Kampala.
The ‘Kasosiro Boys’ trainer however believes he has the perfect antidote to stop the ‘Pride of Rivers’ in their tracks.
“They will have some respect for KCCA because of the recent performances of the club as put across in recent matches,” Mutebi told supersport.com.
“They will try to be very careful and play on the break because Nigerians are usually physical.
“We will play our way, the tiki-taka style, and try to counter and if they try to catch us on the break, it even helps us because we are going to be more in their half and cause them trouble.
“We are going to be very tactically organised because they (Rivers United) may not be a very good team holistically but tactically, they are very organised,” he submitted.
GOOD NEWS FROM THE INFIRMARY
To break down the Rivers United rear guard, Mutebi knows he will require his most creative players to step up to the plate and deliver big performances.
One of such individual is playmaker-extraordinaire Muzamir Mutyaba.
Mutyaba, who has been sidelined in recent matches, has returned to first team action much to the delight of Mutebi.
“We are very prepared; our creative players (like Mutyaba) who have been injured are back.
“We tested Mutyaba (in the Cup game) against Express, against the Cranes and again (on Thursday) when we had a practice match and he performed very well.
“So he has got useful match time (under his belt) and that is a big boost for us as far as creativity is concerned.
“The return of Mutyaba (from injury) gives us more creativity when we are going forward.
PROFLIGACY, OKELLO AND THE STAR TURN
KCCA’s forwards have been accused of fluffing a plethora of chances in recent marches, a thing of concern for Mutebi.
The return to form of ‘wunderkid,’ Allan Okello has however proved to be heart-warming news for the reigning Ugandan Super League champions.
Okello may be the man to do damage to the chances of the Nigerian side at ‘Lugogo’ and Mutebi is already licking his lips in anticipation while also hoping that his forwards display deadly efficiency in the final third.
“The young kid, Allan Okello, (is available) and these two players (Mutyaba being the other) helped us to create so many chances against Express.
“We are going to create many chances against Rivers United but I hope we will be efficient when we get these chances.
“We are getting chances now but it is now up to the players to put these chances away.
“Maybe, at times, we have been creating chances by accident because we are not used to creating (many) chances in Ugandan football.
“We are used to winning matches 1-0; maybe create four chances in 90 minutes.
“So it is new to the players; sometimes, they are surprised (that they get so many chances).
“So now that they are getting used to it, efficiency must come in, but it is all down to them having belief.
“We have 18 players available but I still don’t know the 11 that will start against Rivers United,” he said.
The game between KCCA and Rivers United will be played at the Phillip Omondi Stadium, Kampala and kickoff has been fixed for 2pm, Nigerian time.
A win for either side (depending on the margin of victory) will see them move to either second or top spot after FUS Rabat beat Club Africain 2-1 in the other match in Group A on Friday.
