Disu, Omokaro hail NFF over Yusuf
Former Flying Eagles coach Tunde Disu
and ex-Super Eagles defender Bright Omokaro have commended the Nigeria
Football Federation for giving Salisu Yusuf a contract.
Yusuf, who is Nigeria coach Gernot Rohr’s assistant, had been working without a contract.
The News Agency of Nigeria
reported on Wednesday that Yusuf confirmed he had been given a contract
by the NFF after meeting with the federation on Tuesday.
“I have been offered a contract. So, I’m happy to continue with the job,” NAN quoted the former Kano Pillars and Enyimba manager as saying.
Disu backed the NFF for giving Yusuf a full-time job, saying the coach deserved the post.
He said, “I think the country needs someone like him who has travelled far and wide in the country.
“He is of a dependable quality, which I
can vouch for. He was my assistant when I was the coach of Lobi Stars
but before then, he played under me from 1987 to 1989.
“He has proved to be a highly-technical coach and understands the domestic league.”
The former NFF Technical Director
added, “Yusuf has never hid his passion for the national team, it is a
team he loves to be with and the players are also in his support.
“It is a good thing that the NFF is
encouraging Nigerian coaches to manage the national teams, because
they know the players better, obviously because they have handled some
of them before.”
Maroc ’88 Africa Cup of Nations silver medallist Omokaro called for support for Yusuf.
