The football culture award, that is presented to recipients for their outstanding work done within the sport, was presented to the legendary former Manchester United boss in Nuremberg on Friday night.
The Scot transformed United into one of the most powerful forces in world football, winning 13 league titles during 27 years in charge at Old Trafford.
Ferguson, who retired in 2013 but continues to regularly attend United matches, said, as quoted by the Daily Mail: "I think to last 39 years as a coach is unique and also that the people I worked with bought into the work ethic I had, I think that was important."
